Zamfara procures N4.2bn fertilizer for wet farming season

Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar of Zamfara State has procured assorted fertilizer worth N4.2billion for this year’s wet farming season in the state.
Speaking during the launch of fertilizer distribution to farmers  at Magami town in Gusau Local Government Area, Governor Yari disclosed that 40,000 metric tons of assorted fertilizer were procured for 2014 wet farming season in the state.
He warned officials of the ministry saddled with the responsibility to ensure even distribution of the commodity to small, medium and large scale farmers in the state.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment towards ensuring the sales of fertilizer at the rate of N1,000 per bag.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Dannabirgi  said his ministry had been striving to improve the standard of farming in the state.
Dannabirgi maintained that 1,600 tube wells, wash bores and equivalent water pumps would be distributed to dry season farmers in the state.
According to him, the state government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, intends to procure 600 sets of work bulls to be distributed to farmers in the state.
