Voter’s cards: Suswam wants collection period extended

Benue State Governor, Dr. Gabriel Suswam has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to consider extending the number of days allowed for the collection of  voter’s cards,  to enable the electorate to participate in the exercise.
Suswam, who made the call yesterday while collecting his voter’s card alongside his wife, Dooshima, at his polling unit, said that the number of days approved for the exercise was not enough.
He urged the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Alhaji Baba Abba Yusuf to appeal to the INEC head office to extend the days for the exercise.
Suswam also hinted that the state government would send a representation to the INEC headquarters to table the matter before the INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega.
The governor, who also expressed concern over the number of cards that were yet to be collected, posited that if the exercise was not extended, it would disenfranchise many people from voting in the 2015 general elections.
